San Antonio de la Nueva Esperanza can be reached—on infrequent clear days—by private airplane from Guatemala City at a cost of $300. Otherwise, a gruelling
18-hour trip is required over the mountains on unpaved roads.

Mission

Nueva Salud is a recently formed nonprofit organization. Our mission is to introduce comprehensive hygiene and basic medical care to isolated villages where uncontrolled infections, parasites, and diarrhea are a permanent way of life, and doctors are not within reach.

We bring modern public health systems to people who have had to survive without the advances that are commonplace in much of the world.

Nueva Salud is dedicated to the comprehensive health of each and every individual. This contrasts with other worthy groups committed to health crusades around the world, which have specific targets — like the eradication of AIDS or TB.

We are building sanitary latrines, getting stoves into the houses, purifying the water, teaching hygiene, and training leaders to supervise and maintain the gains made.
